This US Open winner was set to go head-to-head with Tiger Woods for the first time in a competitive round of golf earlier this year, only for the 15-time major champion to pull out
Wyndham Clark was left ‘heartbroken’ when Tiger Woods withdrew from what would have been their first competitive round of golf together.
PGA Tour hotshot and US Open champ Clark, who turned pro in 2018, had a relatively low-key start to his life on the circuit but hit the big time in 2023 by beating Rory McIlroy to his first major at LACC.
Despite a rocky Ryder Cup debut, Clark’s career has soared, yet he’s never gone head-to-head with golfing titan Woods. This was set to change in 2025, but his hopes were crushed.
The two were set to do battle in the new indoor TGL golf league, co-founded by Woods and McIlroy, which kicked off in January. Woods represents Jupiter Links Golf Club in the TGL, while Clark plays for The Bay.
“So, we were playing Jupiter Links, and Tiger was supposed to play,” Clark continued. “I’m all excited, I get my chance to finally play a competitive round with Tiger Woods, and he bailed on us. I’m heartbroken. I hope he hears this.”
