Carlos Alcaraz

World No. 2 Carlos Alcaraz has expressed his belief that if there is anyone capable of defeating the top-ranked Novak Djokovic at the upcoming 2023 Wimbledon, it would be Nick Kyrgios. Alcaraz acknowledged his own difficulties playing on grass courts, which led him to consider Kyrgios as a potential challenger to the world number one. It is worth noting that Kyrgios faced Djokovic in the grass-court Grand Slam final last year.

In the semifinals of the recently concluded French Open, Carlos Alcaraz experienced a defeat at the hands of Novak Djokovic, with a scoreline of 6-3, 7-5, 6-1, 6-1. Following his victory over Alcaraz, Djokovic went on to convincingly defeat Casper Ruud in the final, securing both the tournament victory and his record-breaking 23rd Grand Slam title.

Despite being considered the favorite to upset Novak Djokovic and secure his second Grand Slam title, Carlos Alcaraz fell short in their encounter. Although the 20-year-old displayed resilience by winning the second set 7-5 after Djokovic claimed the first set, he faced physical issues that prevented him from winning more than two games in the subsequent sets. When asked about his potential to challenge Djokovic at Wimbledon once again, Alcaraz acknowledged that it is Nick Kyrgios who possesses the necessary skills to defeat the 36-year-old.

In the lead-up to the Queen’s Club Championships, Carlos Alcaraz expressed his thoughts to reporters, stating, “[Nick] Kyrgios has already reached a Wimbledon final and he performs exceptionally well on grass. While I don’t doubt my ability to defeat Djokovic, I believe my chances are slimmer on this surface compared to others. In my opinion, Kyrgios has a greater likelihood of defeating Djokovic than any other player.”

Carlos Alcaraz is set to begin his journey at the Queen’s Club Championships against Arthur Fils.

Carlos Alcaraz is scheduled to face Arthur Fils on Tuesday (June 20) at the Queen’s Club Championships in his upcoming tournament. The talented youngster has had an impressive season so far, winning 35 out of 39 matches and securing four titles, including two Masters 1000 events.

Meanwhile, Arthur Fils has also had a commendable year, winning 10 out of 14 matches and clinching his first singles title at the Lyon Open by defeating Francisco Cerundolo in the final.

As they have never crossed paths before, their head-to-head record stands at 0-0. This matchup presents an intriguing opportunity to observe Alcaraz’s performance on grass courts ahead of the upcoming Wimbledon tournament next month.
