Mississippi homecoming shooting

What we know:

Mississippi state Sen. Derrick Simmons said four people had been killed, and that four others were hurt after a high school football homecoming game in the town of Leland.

The victims were taken to a hospital in Greenville and then flown to a larger hospital in the state capital city of Jackson, said Simmons, who is the senator for that region.

Editor’s Note: Heidelberg Police Chief Cornell White earlier on Saturday told The Associated Press two people were killed on the school’s campus Friday night during homecoming weekend, which was reported in this story.

What we don’t know:

It wasn’t known yet exactly when the shooting happened or how close it was to game time or the stadium. It also wasn’t known yet if the victims were students.

Police had not yet released information about the suspected shooter, or what caused the shooting.

The Source: Information in this article comes from the Heidelberg Police Chief Cornell White, as told to and reported by The Associated Press. This story was reported from Detroit.
