Carlos Alcaraz

Nicolas Almagro, a former Spanish tennis player, is confident that Carlos Alcaraz, currently ranked as the world number two, will avoid repeating past mistakes in the future.

The 20-year-old is often called the most highly-rated young men’s singles tennis player currently playing in the circuit.
However, despite all that talent, Alcaraz has had a bit of a rough patch in the recent past. He lost in the round of 16 of the Shanghai Masters to Bulgaria’s Grigor Dimitrov with a score of 5-7, 6-2, 6-4.

Almagro was recently quoted in a report where he suggested that Alcaraz is going through a tough patch but believes that the two-time Grand Slam winner will not keep making the same mistakes in the future.

“It must be complicated to be in this situation,” said the 38-year-old. “I think that being able to handle this type of circumstances has to be very difficult, I know that Carlos – he is very ambitious, I know that his dream is to finish number one.

“He also has to have a great Masters Cup (ATP Finals) in Turin. He still has tournaments ahead of him and we will see how he performs. Personally, I think he has everything under control, or so I want to think, but it not only depends on him, but also on Djokovic, on how he is physically and mentally.

“The final part of the season is a bit difficult for him, but we hope that with this rest he can reach both Paris and Turin in the best possible way. I have not seen a downturn in Alcaraz, the year is very long, there are many games, many kilometres, many celebrations and emotions, It is a lot.

“I have learned everything – that he has been on the circuit for a year and everything that is happening to him is logical and normal. It has never happened to Carlos and I am clear that in the coming years this type of errors or declines in certain tournaments will not happen to him.”
