Andy Murray

“Andy Murray delighted his fans this week with a humorous throwback image, reminiscing about a less-than-perfect hair day, following his recent haircut in Basel.”

Andy Murray took to Instagram to share a photo of him in the days when he had longer hair.

The look Murray shared may have been from this century but the volume of his locks wouldn’t have looked out of place across the court from John McEnroe in the 1970s.

Murray isn’t the most image conscious players and has admitted that he often can’t be bothered with his hair.
So much so that Murray relies on his wife to cut his hair for him.

“Usually it’s my wife that cuts my hair. I hate going to the hairdressers, get no enjoyment out of it at all and I find it a massive hassle. But my wife is often nagging me to go to the hairdressers and I just tell her if she wants me to get it cut, then she can cut it,” Murray said.

“Basically, I never liked going to the hairdressers. She was always encouraging me to do it,” he added.
The freshly shorn Murray was made to work very hard to get beyond Yannick Hanfmann in his Basel opener.

“It was tough,” Murray said of the encounter

“The first four or five games were something like 45 minutes. I don’t remember having that really before, it was ridiculous. And then had a chance at the end of the first set, didn’t get it and just managed to sneak a break at the end.”

Andy Murray will take on Tomas Martin Etcheverry in the second round on Wednesday after the Argentina upset eighth seed Sebastian Korda 6-3 1-6 6-3.

Murray is currently just two victories shy from joining Roger Federer, Novak Djokovic, Andre Agassi, and Rafael Nadal as the fifth player in history to amass 500 ATP Tour match wins on hard courts.

He arrived in Basel being 15-15 for the season but has clawed his way back up to being the world No 40.

Murray’s win over Hanfmann snapped a three match losing streak and leaves him one win away from reaching his second quarter-final in a full ATP Tour event this season.

He reached the championship match in Doha earlier in 2023 sparking hopes that he could compete for major honours this season but has only been able to add three Challenger Tour titles to his career collection.
