The technology-focused golf league established by Tiger Woods and Rory McIlroy is postponing its launch until early 2025.
TGL cited the recent damage to the venue it’s constructing to stage events once play begins.
“This decision came after reviewing short-term solutions, potential construction timelines, player schedules, and the primetime sports television calendar,” the company said. “Despite this new timeline for the venue, we remain excited about the future of TGL and will continue to build excitement between now and the start of the season with our players, fans and teams.”

TMRW Sports, which was co-founded by Woods, McIlroy and Mike McCarley, announced in August 2022 it was partnering with the PGA Tour for TGL. The team-based competition will feature a number of top stars competing in a specially designed indoor arena.

TGL initially set a launch date of January 2024, formalizing its format in October.
Those plans hit a major snag when the arena’s roof unexpectedly collapsed last week. TGL said Monday that “most of the technology was not impacted,” one look at the aftermath showed how much work the repairs would require.

A new venture of this magnitude can ill afford to stumble out of the gate. Even if TGL had managed to stage an abbreviated 2024 season, the company alluded to the potential headaches in terms of player availability and television coverage that could’ve taken away from the spectacle.
Even before the roof collapse, Golf Digest’s Joel Beall raised a number of underlying concerns and questions with TGL as the inaugural season was months away from teeing off.
Regrouping and waiting another year allows TGL to make the biggest splash possible.
