Making one’s parents proud is a dream of every working individual in the world. Alexis Ohanian, the husband of Serena Williams, is no different in this regard. The co-founder of Reddit has always aimed to make his parents proud, especially after he lost his mother in 2008. He hopes to continue making her proud and shared a special message on the day of her death anniversary.
Alexis Ohanian is an active social media user and always remembers his mother with his followers. In this manner, he keeps her memory alive in thousands around the world and continues to hope for a better tomorrow.
Serena Williams’ husband pays tribute to mother on death anniversary
Ohanian had to bid farewell to his mother as he was two years into improving Reddit. The entrepreneur carried the mother of his memory with him throughout the last two decades and went on to create the 776 Foundation, a venture with which he aims to uplift those with a great vision. He shared a post on the date of her passing, talking about making her proud.
He wrote, “My mom died 16 years ago today. This used to be the hardest day of the year for me (Ides of March, go figure) and then 3 years ago I started my family foundation — @776foundation and found a new meaning to this day — one that I know she’d have been proud of ”
He further talked about his initiative to help climate change, “I’ve given away a few million dollars so far ($20M committed!) to young people taking BIG swings to BUILD and FIGHT climate change. And we’re going to open up our global application here again soon for the third batch of 20 fellows.”
This year, he talked about making her proud. In 2023, on Mother’s Day, he shared another special tribute to her.

Alexis’ mother, Anke Ohanian, died in 2008 from a brain tumor. Since then, Alexis has shared memories and facts about his relationship with his mother on Mother’s Day each year. Similarly, on Mother’s Day 2023, he paid tribute to his mother and discussed how, following her passing, he had become a successful businessman, highlighting his mother’s part in this.
He took to X to share a childhood photo with his mother. He wrote, “Love your mama every day! After I sold @Reddit, my mom passed, + I had enough to dedicate a chair at @UVA for her (Front of the class! Where she’d have sat if she’d gone to college). I think she’d be so excited for the @776Foundation + she’d have LOVED being a grandma (2x!)”
Ohanian likely has a special message for this year’s Mother’s Day as well. But today, he remembers his mother’s passing and hopes that she is watching over him.
