HOUSTON — Simone Biles says she “almost had a heart attack” when she saw her husband Jonathan Owens scoop up a blocked punt and take it in for a score during Sunday’s game against the Tennessee Titans.
Owens, who plays safety for the Chicago Bears, was the beneficiary when teammate Daniel Hardy blocked a punt in the third quarter when they were down, 17-3. This cut it to 17-10 and the Bears went on to win 24-17 in rookie quarterback and No. 1 overall draft pick Caleb Williams’ debut.
This was Owens’s first touchdown as a Bear, and second overall, after spending last season with the Green Bay Packers.
“It felt amazing,” Owens said. “Going back to the sideline, all the guys are excited for you. The defense is excited. The energy from the stadium is just rolling in. It didn’t feel like real life.”

During the summer, Owens made headlines when he took time away from Bears training camp to head to Paris to watch his wife capture three more Olympic gold medals and a silver medal.
“It was amazing to watch,” Owens said after returning to training camp in August. “My wife is a warrior. That’s the one thing I tell people because I equate it to how we are in football.”
Now, in week two of his young NFL season, Owens will face his former team, the Houston Texans, in a primetime matchup on Sunday Night Football. This will be the first time he has faced his former team.
Who does Jonathan Owens play for?
While Owens started his career with the Arizona Cardinals who signed him as an undrafted free agent out of Missouri Western, he first made an active NFL roster with the Texans.
He spent four seasons on and off the active roster and practice squad for Houston. It was during this time that Owens met Biles via a dating app called Raya in March 2020 and began dating shortly after.
Biles and Owens married in April 2023 at a courthouse in Houston. A few weeks after their marriage, they held a second ceremony in Cabo San Lucas, Mexico.
“I do … officially Owens,” the seven-time Olympic medalist wrote on Instagram at the time, sharing photos of the ceremony. In his own post, Owens called her “My person, forever.”
The athletic pair are building a house in the Houston suburbs that will be finished in late summer or early fall — after the Paris Games.
They like to cook together as well as work out together.
