At the band’s recent show at SoFi Stadium, Williams let her hair down and had fun with other super fans.
Don’t wake her up when September ends! Serena Williams letting loose at Green Day’s Los Angeles show over the weekend is the best thing you’ll see today.

In the clip, shared to X, formerly Twitter, over the weekend, Williams, clad in an on-trend all-black outfit, was captured dancing with other fans a stone’s throw from the stage at SoFi Stadium, home of the Los Angeles Rams and Los Angeles Chargers, during a show on the band’s latest world tour, which is also celebrating the 30th and 20th anniversaries of their famous albums Dookie and American Idiot. The distinct voice of Green Day’s lead singer, Billie Joe Armstrong, can be heard in the background of the video, which went viral online.

After the show, Armstrong shared a post on Instagram where he called the show “triumphant,” and among hundreds of comments, Williams’ stood out.

“Love you Billie!!!!!!” she wrote.

Williams has been one of Green Day’s most high-profile fans for decades, repeatedly dubbing the foursome her all-time favorite musical group. Last year, she “crushed” a TikTok challenge about the band’s biggest hits, naming song after song as they played consecutively. And in February, she introduced the band at music executive Clive Davis’ invitation-only pre-Grammys party at the Beverly Hilton, having been personally invited by Armstrong himself.

“Truly, to know me is to know my love for them,” Williams said in her opening speech, per a report by Forbesfrom the glitzy event.

Williams purportedly met the band for the first time when they were both guests on host Jimmy Kimmel’s show, something that the 23-time Grand Slam singles champion once said she “owes” the late-night host for.

But Armstrong, too, has affinity for the former world No. 1, saying she’s the “sweetest person.”

“We would run into her in different countries in Europe because she was kicking everybody’s ass in that particular country,” he recalled in a 2021 interview. “She would then come to the show and … well, I think she would literally try to see how fast she could beat her opponent so she could actually come to the gig.”
