Andy Murray has swapped his tennis racket for a golf club

The former tennis star recently called time on his career but has turned his hand to golf recently as he aims to develop his skills

Andy Murray recently hung up his racket but he was spotted playing a new sport sport.

The two-time Wimbledon winner was pictured playing golf in the BMW Championship Pro-Am at Wentworth alongside former England cricketer James Anderson and Anton Du Beke – best known for his time on the BBC show ‘Strictly Come Dancing.’

Despite the previous sporting prowess under his belt, Murray admitted he was ‘nervous’ ahead of the event as reported by The Telegraph. However, it was his fashion choices that caught the attention rather than his ability to hit a golf ball; Murray forgot to tuck his shirt in which is a ‘non-negotiable’ in a sport built on tradition and class.

When asked if taking part in the event was more nerve-racking than the US Open final final he replied: “It’s a different sort of nervous. I’m not thinking I’m going to walk out on a tennis court and forget how to hit the ball. Whereas here, you’re sort of nervous about – people is standing like five metres away from where I’m driving, and I’m like, I’m useless at this game.”

Despite walking away from his beloved sport following defeat at the Paris Olympics earlier this summer, he explained how his competitive edge is yet to waver: “I still enjoy competing. Obviously it’s never going to replace what you had on the tennis court, but this stuff is fun. You hit enough bad shots in golf, you’ve got to give yourself a pat on the back when you hit the odd good one.”

Murray has previously mentioned his desire to take up golf even if it’s for leisure now he will have a lot more free time on his hands given his retirement. The Scot was flanked by his father Willie who carried his equipment around the course, he joked: “My dad might be getting the sack after his performance today. He spent most of his time following Bob around. But no, it was brilliant. During my tennis career, I didn’t get to spend loads of time with my dad. So getting to do that, it was a really cool day, as well.”
