She made a rare comment about her husband during an outing in Wales earlier this week
Despite being two of the most famous people in the world, Prince William and Princess Kate tend to keep intimate details about their relationship out of the public spotlight. On Wednesday, Kate broke that tradition to make an uncharacteristically effusive comment about her husband’s support during her cancer treatment.
On February 26, the couple visited the Welsh town of Pontypridd, where they met with locals, business owners, and volunteers in the aftermath of back-to-back storms that damaged the region at the tail end of last year. While greeting well-wishers in the rain, Kate spoke warmly about her husband during a conversation with one onlooker, according to a fan-captured video that has since made the rounds on social media.
The onlooker seemed to address Kate’s cancer diagnosis and chemotherapy treatment. “Thank you, that’s very kind of you to say,” Kate said while shaking the onlooker’s hand. As for how William has supported her since her diagnosis, she said, “He’s been amazing. … We’ve felt the support from everyone, so it’s meant a lot.”
Kate announced that she was diagnosed with cancer last March. Her subsequent treatment and recovery kept her out of the public spotlight for the majority of 2024, with the princess making only a handful of public appearances at major royal events like Trooping the Colour and her annual Christmas carol service at Westminster Abbey.
Last month, Kate announced that she is now in remission from cancer. “It is a relief to now be in remission and I remain focussed on recovery,” she said in a statement posted to social media. “As anyone who has experienced a cancer diagnosis will know, it takes time to adjust to a new normal. I am however looking forward to a fulfilling year ahead. There is much to look forward to.”
