King Charles takes emotional step after key Buckingham Palace meeting
Palace meeting prompts King Charles to make ‘major break in royal tradition’
King Charles reign is no stranger to major breaks in royal tradition but the monarch took a big decision which the public did not expect to see in his reign.
The British monarchy centres in the UK, but the country is run by a Prime Minister and a democratic system that takes governmental decisions. Hence, the monarch and the senior working members of the family do not make political statements.
They also do not declare political preferences in a personal capacity as it could be used in a negative light.
However, the King, who is undergoing cancer treatment for a year a now, has shown a bolder approach to global issues and diplomacy, which is quite different than his mother, late Queen Elizabeth.
The King’s latest statement on Easter is proof of that, as Charles reflects on his important meetings held at the Buckingham Palace over the past few weeks.
“One of the puzzles of our humanity is how we are capable of both great cruelty and great kindness,” Charles penned in his message for Maundy Thursday.
“This paradox of human life runs through the Easter story and in the scenes that daily come before our eyes — at one moment, terrible images of human suffering and, in another, heroic acts in war-torn countries where humanitarians of every kind risk their own lives to protect the lives of others,” he continued.
“A few weeks ago, I met many such people at a reception in Buckingham Palace and felt a profound sense of admiration for their resilience, courage and compassion.”
He also noted that on the religious occasion of Easter that he found similar themes in of all religions coming together in harmony and it’s “greatest message is love”.
It seems that the monarch’s recent interactions with different religious communities and people prompted him to take a big step in his reign, even if it breaks away from age-old traditions.
