Tiger Woods will not be in action at the PGA Championship this week, but has still sent a message to golf fans who may be playing along at home whilst watching the action

Tiger Woods has playfully urged fans watching from home not to be too “greedy” while they follow the action of the PGA Championship at Quail Hollow.

Just one month following Rory McIlroy’s momentous Masters win in Augusta, matching Woods’ own career Grand Slam record, the cream of the golfing crop have gathered at Quail Hollow for this week’s PGA Championship, which happens to be the season’s second major tournament.

However, four-time PGA Championship winner Woods will be notably absent from the green, as the 49-year-old legend is on the mend from surgery after tearing his left Achilles tendon during practice in March.

Furthermore, Woods is currently involved with Vanessa Trump, the ex-daughter-in-law of the former U.S. President, and they’ve implemented a strict rule for themselves.

Despite being sidelined by injury, Woods hasn’t stepped away from the excitement of the second major of 2025, using social media to endorse 2K’s PGA Tour 2K25 video game.

In his promotion for the video game, Woods advised: “If you’re playing Quail Hollow at home, remember precision off the tee, don’t get greedy, and set yourself up for those difficult greens. Good luck!”

Even without stepping foot on the course, Woods continues to influence other players, including Ryan Gerard who was inspired by Woods’ legacy to shoot a stunning five-under par 66 during the PGA Championship’s opening round, ranking among the day’s top performances.

The 25-year-old golfer earned his PGA Tour card this year and has only two professional victories under his belt, neither of which were on the PGA Tour.

However, he was deeply inspired by Tiger Woods’ victory at the PGA Championship back in 2007.

“In terms of this golf tournament in 2007, first time I ever stepped foot on a PGA Tour event as a fan was three or four name changes ago,” explained Gerard of his love for the PGA Championship.
