A man died early Sunday morning after crashing his speeding motorcycle on Kamehameha Highway in Wahiawa, authorities said.

At about 3 a.m., the man was traveling north on the highway, “at a high rate of speed,” when he went into the southbound lane to overtake a vehicle, lost control trying to get back in the northbound lane and struck a concrete curb north of Kilani Avenue, according to the Honolulu Police Department’s Traffic Division.

The motorcyclist, who was ejected onto the road,was pronounced dead the scene.

Police did not give the man’s age but Honolulu Emergency Medical Services officials who responded to the crash near Karsten Thot Bridge estimated that he was in his 40s.

The man was not wearing a helmet at the time of the crash.

HPD officials said speed appears to be a contributing factor in the crash but it is unknown if drugs or alcohol contributed. The investigation is ongoing, they said.

This was Oahu’s 66th traffic fatality on Oahu this year compared with 35 at the same time in 2024.
