Spotlight Delaware has a new ally in its mission to create a collaborative, statewide local news and information ecosystem: Delmarva Public Media.
The radio broadcaster covering Southern Delaware is now the seventh local news organization to enter into a partnership with Spotlight Delaware, a nonprofit, free-access news site that seeks to empower Delawareans with independent local news and information.
Based in Salisbury, Maryland, and focused on the greater Delmarva Peninsula, DPM is a collaboration of three public radio stations: WSCL 89.5 FM, WSDL 90.7 FM, and WESM 91.3 FM. Its coverage reaches more than 50,000 listeners each month, including thousands in Kent and Sussex counties, Delaware.
“We have a growing and passionate audience base at coastal resorts like Rehoboth and Bethany Beach, and throughout Kent and Sussex counties,” said Bryan Russo, chief content officer for Delmarva Public Media. “We’ve been seeing big growth in Delaware in engagement and membership, which is one of the reasons we are seeking out partnerships like the one with Spotlight Delaware.”
As a partner, Delmarva Public Media will be able to use Spotlight Delaware news stories and videos that they feel are relevant to their audience, and will regularly feature Spotlight reporters appearing on air with DPM hosts.
“Our partnerships are all about expanding access to important news stories for everyone in the state, and this agreement with Delmarva Public Media is an important step toward fulfilling that mission,” said Allison Taylor Levine, Spotlight’s CEO and publisher. “Today, it’s more important than ever that we collaborate and strengthen our communities’ access to local news and information.”
