With the 30th anniversary of Princess Diana’s death approaching in August 2027, teh Prince of Wales has reportedly decided not to take part in any documentary marking the milestone, while Prince Harry is said to be planning his own tribute.
For the 20th anniversary in 2017, Prince William collaborated with his brother on two documentaries for the BBC and ITV.
At a Kensington Palace screening for the ITV documentary Diana, Our Mother: Her Life and Legacy, William explained why it would be their final public statement on their mother, telling guests: “We won’t speak as openly about her again.”
The documentaries served as a final catharsis for William’s grief, which perhaps explains why he does not wish to take part in further tributes.
It is a decision that highlights just how differently the brothers now choose to honour their mother’s memory.
Meanwhile, Queen Camilla will turn 80 next July, and the Prince of Wales is also expected to pay tribute to the Queen on her milestone birthday.
