FAIRBANKS, Alaska (KTUU) – The Alaska State Troopers are asking the public to vote for their vehicle design as an entry for the yearly calendar put out by the American Association of State Troopers, which highlights the best-looking trooper vehicles from around the U.S.
Captain Eric Spitzer with AST in Fairbanks explained that in order to make it into the calendar, a state’s entry has to make it into the top 13 vote getters.
As of Wednesday, Alaska sits at 13th place, with 5,806 votes so far, with two days left until the vote ends on Friday, July 11 at 1 p.m. Alaska Daylight Time.
Currently, no examples of the cruiser design submitted for the contest have made it to Fairbanks, according to Information Officer John Dougherty, but going forward, all new vehicles will carry that new design.
Last year, the state ended with 7,600 votes, 800 shy of placing in the top 13, according to Spitzer.
Currently in the lead this year is Michigan with 35,149 votes.
“We clearly have a better patrol vehicle. They just have more voters down there, so we need to get Alaska voters out, and I’m not asking you to leave your house or anything, just like, just go to our social media page, click on the link and vote,” said Spitzer.
The competition, he said, has been going on for 12 years, and so far, the 49th state has not had a presence on the resulting calendar.
Alaskans interested in voting can do so via a Survey Monkey link on the AST’s Facebook Page.
