Andy Murray welcomed Mary Berry to the Cromlix Hotel for a BBC Christmas special.
Andy Murray broke his wife Kim’s sacred Christmas rule while filming the ‘Mary Berry Christmas Special’ with the queen of baking at his Cromlix estate in Scotland.
The couple opened the doors of their luxury five-star hotel to BBC cameras as they filmed with Dame Mary for the popular festive programme. During the episode, set to air at 9pm on BBC One, Berry taught the tennis star some local recipes while Murray’s granny, Shirley, showcased her famous homemade shortcake.
Andy Murray was up to all kinds of mischief on the set as he tried to sneak a tennis ball onto the top of the Christmas tree despite his wife forbidding him from touching any of the decorations. “I was up at Cromlix at the end of November filming the Mary Berry Christmas special, just as the Christmas decorations had started to go up at the hotel,” Andy told HELLO! Magazine.
“I’m not normally allowed to touch the decorations but I did try to sneak a tennis ball onto the tree to see if anyone noticed.”

The Victorian mansion is set on 34 acres of secluded grounds in the beautiful Scottish countryside and at this time of year, it is filled with classic decorations and Christmas lights. Kim, who plays a part in organising the hotel’s Christmas decor alongside interior designer Suzanne Garuda revealed of this year’s design: “We’ve got one enormous Christmas tree as you come up the driveway and then lots throughout the hotel too, including trees in the bedrooms.
“On the trees this year, we’ve gone with a playful but elegant theme, with handmade decorations featuring citrus fruits and flowers, eucalyptus which has such a lovely colour, vintage bells and soft velvet ribbons.
“On the fireplace, we’ve put lichen-covered branches with berry foliage and twisted willow which looks lovely and natural and makes the bar area look very festive.”
Suzanne added: “We wanted the Christmas decorations to be in total harmony and reflect the individual room interiors. Natural accessories enhance spaces and highlight the rich tones and colours of the surrounding countryside.”
