Andy Murray has not played the French Open since 2020

Andy Murray picked up his most impressive win of the year so far with a straight-sets victory over Tomás Martín Etcheverry at the Miami Open.

Andy Murray swept past the Argentinian, ranked 30 in the world, 7-6 (0), 6-3 in a rain-interrupted match to reach the third round. The 36-year-old Scot gained a measure of revenge for his defeat by the same player in the first round of the Australian Open in January.

Andy Murray will face the Czech youngster Tomas Machac, who beat the Russian world No 6 Andrey Rublev, in the next round.

Jack Draper’s challenge was ended by Nicolás Jarry, however. The world No 23 from Chile, beat 22-year-old Draper 7-6 (5), 4-6, 7-6 (2).

It was also a gloomy day for US fans with three of the top four-ranked American men crashing out, led by the 12th seed Taylor Fritz.
Joining Fritz in exiting were the 13th seed Tommy Paul and 21st-seeded Frances Tiafoe to leave No 16 Ben Shelton as the highest-ranked home grown hope.

Denis Shapovalov delivered an upset, meanwhile, finishing off the 10th seeded Stefanos Tsitsipas 6-2, 6-4. Leading 2-1 when play was halted on Friday, the Canadian had his Greek opponent under constant pressure, piling up 18 break opportunities and converting three while Tsitsipas could not manage a single break chance the entire contest.
