On August 2018- Having suffered a major hip injury as a result of his pro tennis career, Andy Murray is used to battle wounds.
But he probably wasn’t expecting the latest one – which was inflicted by Edie, his daughter was 10-month-old, during playtime.
Taking to Instagram, father-of-two Andy uploaded an image of him nursing a bloodied nose, dabbing it with a tissue.
He captioned the Instagram Story: ‘When playing with your 10 month old daughter gets a bit too physical.’
Andy didn’t make it clear precisely how the accident happened, MailOnline has approached Andy’s rep for more information.
The accident happened on the eve of his second-round match against Fernando Verdasco at the US Open – the first Grand Slam Andy has taken on since his hip injury, having to skip this summer’s tournament on home ground at Wimbledon.
He heads back to Flushing Meadows’ centre court at the Arthur Ashe Stadium on Wednesday to play against Spanish Verdasco.
The tennis star – who has been married to wife Kim Sears for three years – has an older daughter, Sophia, who is now two.
On Tuesday, the two-time Wimbledon victor, 31, made an impassioned pledge in a new campaign, calling his daughters his ‘future’, while promoting gender equality in tennis – after previously declaring he’s a feminist.
The British sportsman described how his daughters’ ‘dreams have no gender’ in a powerful clip.
Speaking about gender equality in tennis, he added: ‘The only thing that separates tennis players is the net. We need to embrace all.’
The video was shared on Twitter by the US Open’s official account, as part of a new partnership between campaign group SheIS and the championship.’
The US Open also tweeted a quote from Murray from 2015, when he said: ‘Have I become a feminist? If being a feminist is about fighting so that a woman is treated like a man, then yes, I suppose I have.’
Speaking in the video, the two-time Wimbledon champion says: ‘We’re fathers. She is my daughter. She is my future. She knows dreams have no gender. Her rights are her rights.
‘The only thing that separates tennis players is the net. We need to embrace all.’
His mother Judy certainly approved of his comments, sharing the video on her Twitter page with a love heart emoji.
Murray battled back from a set down to beat his Australian opponent James Duckworth in the first round of the US Open on Monday.
He will now face Spanish player Fernando Verdasco, who is the No 31 seed, in the next round.
His campaign video comes after he received praise for calling out ‘everyday sexism’ during a Wimbledon press conference last year.
A reporter had been asking him about the significance of his opponent Sam Querry being the ‘first American player’ to reach a Wimbledon semi-final since 2009.
However, Murray cut the reporter off mid question to state that he should have said ‘male player’.
American Serena Williams has won Wimbledon four times since 2009, while her sister Venus had reached the semi-finals in 2017.
