Andy Murray‘s brother is ready to spread his wings in the tennis world. Just like the three-time Grand Slam champion, his sibling is also a part of the tennis part. After creating a name for himself in the doubles category, Jamie Murray has now looked at his life beyond playing tennis. Recently, an amazing announcement regarding the former world number one tennis player’s big brother came to light.
Jamie has landed a prestigious role in the tennis world after being a part of the management team for years now. While at the age of 36, Andy is driving to give his best on the court, his just-a-year-old brother has chosen a different path for himself.
Andy Murray’s brother lands a prestigious role
The former doubles world number one has announced a major career add-on as he grabs a prestigious position in the UK tennis arena. He has been appointed as the tournament director for the Cinch Championship from the next year itself. Along with that, the multi-Grand Slam-winning doubles player will continue to play as a professional athlete.
But at the same time, he will not play in the Queen’s Club Championships, which are scheduled for June 17–23. Having organized the Battle of Britain event between Scotland and England in Aberdeen just a few months ago, he has experienced the role of tournament director.
Moreover, the Cinch Championships are one of the most high-profile ATP tour events in the UK. With 500 ranking points attached to the tournament, it has attracted some big names over the years. Carlos Alcaraz, the rising tennis sensation, won the championship last year, and Jamie’s brother is a five-time winner of the same event.
Apart from that, after this huge announcement, the 37-year-old also talked about becoming a tournament director and doing something for his country’s tennis off the court.
Jamie Murray pours his heart out on achieving a new height
After getting this amazing opportunity, while he was ready to show his dedication to tennis, he talked about being able to receive this chance. He said, “It’s a real honor to be given this opportunity by the LTA to work on such a prestigious and well-regarded tournament with the event team during the year, supporting the development and growth of the Cinch Championships.”
Apart from that, he also highlighted that he has always been interested in the event side of the business that takes place besides playing tennis. Carrying a huge passion for running tennis tournaments over the past few years, blending perfectly with his knowledge of playing at a very high level on the tour, will help the tournament remain one of the most prestigious events in the world.
