Aryna Sabalenka makes one thing clear about being new No. 1 in women's tennis

Aryna Sabalenka has emphasized her continued drive to achieve remarkable feats while acknowledging the significant sense of responsibility that comes with her new position as the top-ranked player in women’s tennis. At 25 years old, Sabalenka officially ascended to the world No. 1 spot following the US Open, marking her first time holding this prestigious ranking in her career.

Sabalenka, who also became a Grand Slam champion at this year’s Australian Open, accomplished her two biggest tennis goals this year. “I am still motivated to continue doing important things, no matter how hard it was for me to reach the top, I’m not going to relax or lose my desire.

I want to finish this season as the best player in the world and stay in that position as long as possible. Every time I achieve a goal, I set new ones and this one is very exciting, so I want to give my best tennis here in Beijing.

This situation is new for me, it still seems crazy to be there. I know that, right now, I represent all of women’s tennis and that generates a great responsibility, but nothing in me has changed,” Sabalenka said, via The Tennis Letter.

Sabalenka took the world No 1 spot from Swiatek at the US Open
After spending seven months ranked at No 2 in the world, Sabalenka learned she was guaranteed to replace Swiatek at the world No 1 spot following the Pole’s US Open round-of-16 loss.

When asked to address reaching the world No 1 spot, Sabalenka insisted she wanted to face Swiatek in the US Open final and earn the top spot that way. “And I really wanted to have this battle and decide everything on court.

But I was sad that she lost. It means a lot to me. All this year I’ve been pushing myself so hard to reach this goal, to become World No 1. It really means a lot for me, a lot for my family and… It’s just, it’s just unbelievable.

It’s something crazy. I still can’t believe it,” Sabalenka said at the US Open after learning she was guaranteed to overtake Swiatek at the top spot. Meanwhile, Sabalenka is set to return to action in Beijing, where she plays Sofia Kenin in her opener.
