HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) – A father and daughter accused of assaulting a Honolulu police officer appeared in court Wednesday.

Kaeo Montalbo, 38, and Naehu Montalbo-Wong, 18, were arrested Friday night following a fight outside Farrington High School.

Police said when officers tried break up the fight, Montalbo allegedly kicked an officer in the groin while Montalbo-Wong allegedly struck another officer in the face.

Their attorney, Michael Green, said his clients were protecting other family members from bullies when things got out of control.

“They’re at a football game, and there’s a threat made to one of the younger daughters, so the entire family gets up to leave, and then one of the girls is confronted inside in front of the vice principal, and one of the bullies takes a swing at her,” said Green. “The father went nuts and then the police came, and he was just out of control.”

Both remain free after posting bail.

Their next court hearing is on Nov. 12.
