A British couple have died in a horror crash in Spain after their Ferrari skidded off the mountain road.

It occurred during a rally and plunged into a river in Boca de Huergano, northern Spain.

The married couple, reportedly aged 78 and 58, were found dead by rescuers in their £300,000 supercar on May 10.

Bleak images from the scene show the remains of their crushed Ferrari 448, partially submerged in the Yuso River.

Harrowingly, a sunhat, thought to belong to the couple, can be seen on one of the seats.

It is unclear whether the pair drowned or died from their initial injuries.

Jose Antonio Gutierrez Sampedro, a local commentator, claimed the driver of the fatal crash may have suffered a medical emergency.
