Carlos Alcaraz will be unable to defend his title at the Barcelona Open Banc Sabadell after he was forced to withdraw from the ATP 500 due to a right arm injury.
It is the same injury that also caused the No. 3 in the PIF ATP Rankings to miss this week’s Rolex Monte-Carlo Masters. Alcaraz will now hope to make his clay-court debut for 2024 at the Mutua Madrid Open, where he has also lifted the trophy in the past two years.
The 20-year-old Alcaraz is 15-4 for 2024 so far, a tally which includes a run to his fifth ATP Masters 1000 crown in Indian Wells.
Record 12-time champion Rafael Nadal remains in the draw in Barcelona, where he has been drawn to play Italian Flavio Cobolli in the opening round.
