Woods had a difficult start at the Future Masters, and bad weather prevented him from getting back on track.

Charlie Woods’ golf career has been a rollercoaster. The son of the legendary Tiger Woods has had brilliant performances but also bitter disappointments. The weather doesn’t help either. This week, the younger Woods hoped to continue his upward path, but a storm curtailed his participation in Alabama.

Last week, Woods qualified for his first USGA championship by finishing with a 1-under 71 at Eagle Trace Golf Club in Coral Springs, Florida. The feat filled the 15-year-old with confidence, especially ahead of his participation in the 15-18 age group at the Future Masters in Dothan, Alabama.

Woods Jr. had a rocky start at Dothan Country Club, with a first-round 73, three over par, and a 76 in the second, six over. Although a comeback from the young player could be expected, as occurred in Florida, the weather played against him.

The Future Masters’ suspension
The weather complicated the actions at the Dothan Country Club to the point that organizers warned that any delay in Saturday’s round would lead to the cancellation of the tournament.

In the end, that’s what happened. Although several participants managed to complete the third round, the poor conditions forced the suspension of the rest of the day and the tournament to end.

With the first two rounds complete, Ben Shedd took first place in the 15-18 group with a 5-under 135. Brantley Moore and Williams Drew tied for second at 137, -3.

Woods, for his part, finished tied with 12 other players in 103rd place, with 149 strokes, nine over par.

Charlie’s difficult future
Although no one likes comparisons, Charlie Woods’ career has had a diametrically opposite start to that of his father. Woods Sr. began his career at 14, and by 15, he had already won his first tournament, the US Junior Amateur at Bay Hill. Tiger ultimately became the first player to win this tournament three years in a row.

In contrast, Charlie’s career has been one of ups and downs. In addition to second place at Coral Springs, the younger Woods was second in the Medalist Tour at Martin Downs in late March. However, those two great performances were overshadowed by this setback in Dothan and a 40th place in the Nicklaus Junior Championship in 2022.

Charlie Woods’ career is just beginning, and the learning curve is expected to be steep. Comparisons to his famous father don’t help either, but if the young Woods can overcome these obstacles, he can have a notable career in the sport.
