Carlos Alcaraz

After eight months without a title, Carlos Alcaraz is back on the attack again – and is not afraid to express it. In Miami he wants to complete the “Sunshine Double” after his triumph in Indian Wells. The Spaniard would thus rise into an elite circle.

Carlos Alcaraz enters the tournament at the Miami Open against either Aleksandar Vukic or Roberto Carballes Baena. Of course his journey shouldn’t end there, the winner of Indian Wells has a clear goal: the “Sunshine Double”.

“For me that would be incredible. Very few players have done that and for me it would be something really big to be one of the tennis players who can win the ATP Masters 1000 in Indian Wells and Miami in the same year. So I will and I’m really looking forward to competing here in Miami. Of course I’ll fight to achieve my goal,” said Alcaraz in Miami.

Novak Djokovic: The King of the “Sunshine Double”
And Alcaraz is right: Only eleven players in history have managed to achieve the “Sunshine Double” by winning in Indian Wells and Miami one after the other. Roger Federer, Novak Djokovic, Pete Sampras, Andre Agassi, Jim Courier, Michael Chang, Marcelo Rios, Iga Swiatek, Steffi Graf, Kim Clijsters and Victoria Azarenka achieved this feat.

The king of the Sunshine Double is without a doubt Novak Djokovic, who has achieved this feat four times, including three times in a row between 2014 and 2016. At his premiere in 2011, the Serb defeated Rafael Nadal both in Indian Wells and a little later in Miami. In any case, this much is already certain for Carlos Alcaraz: he won’t face either of these two in Miami.
