Tennis sensation Coco Gauff made a resounding debut at the Madrid Open, a WTA 1000-level event, easily advancing to the Round of 32.
The 2023 US Open champion saw off world No.47 Arantxa Rus of the Netherlands after a dominant display, where her opponent failed to get a single game.
Coco Gauff will face Ukraine’s Dayana Yamstremska on Saturday (27 April) in a bid to reach the quarter-finals.
After receiving a bye into the second round, Gauff’s first outing of the competition provided no let-up for her opposing number.
The US international looked laser-focused and incredibly sharp on the clay, concluding the first set in a matter of 23 minutes.
Such is the form of the 20-year-old that she won six straight games, putting herself in pole position as she headed into the second set.
The world no.3 continued her ruthless masterclass on the court, despite Rus’ best attempts to get on the scoreboard.
Just like the first, Gauff claimed the second set in straight games in what was a dominant showing in Madrid.
She will be in Round of 32 action on Saturday 27 April.
