Phil Mickelson

All work and no play makes Jack a dull boy. Well, Phil Mickelson is definitely not Jack. Lefty is currently in Music City and has decided to shake a leg with his HyFlyers teammates before they take on the Nashville greens at the ninth event of the 2024 LIV golf season, which is set to kick off on June 21st.

In a post shared by NUCLR Golf on its official X handle (formerly Twitter), the world got to witness the hillbilly version of Phil Mickelson. The 54-year-old and the rest of the HyFlyers—Cameron Tringale, Andy Ogletree, and Brendan Steele—coordinated their ensembles, all donning white T-shirts and black pants and topping it off with black scarves and cowboy hats. All of them were seen dancing to George Strait’s 1985 song, The Fireman. Although they are in 11th place in the LIV Golf rankings table, they surely occupy the number one spot in dancing and having fun.

Talking about the six-time major winner’s dancing skills, this is not the first time he has shown his moves to the world. If you remember, he could be seen dancing and dodging golf balls in an advertisement video that he did back in 2018. Not just that, the veteran could also be seen ‘the worm’ at the end of the commercial.

Seeing his moves once again, the social media users couldn’t hold back from commenting on the social media post. The video received various kinds of reactions from the fans, some praising him while others not so much.

What did netizens have to say about Phil Mickelson’s moves?
Mickelson has been active on the greens for around 35 years, playing amateur golf while attending Arizona State University from 1989 to 1991. He also played in the U.S. Open as an amateur in 1990. With his great performance, he turned pro in 1992 and went on to win 6 majors and 45 PGA Tour events in total. The veteran is now 54 years old. Reflecting on his achievements, talents, and high energy even at this age, a user said, “54 and performing in all departments.” Another comment praising his goofiness in the video said, “I can’t stop watching So awful Yet so good.”

Alluding to his Mizzen+Main commercial and comparing the moves he had done with the recent ones, someone said, “Beats the Mizzen+Main commercial.” On how he agreed to do a dancing commercial, Mickelson said that the dress shirt brand Mizzen+Main (for which the ad was) first showed him some other video ads they had previously shot with American football players Tim Tebow and JJ Watt and then proposed an idea that involved dancing. Initially, Mickelson was not comfortable with the idea of dancing on camera. That’s when Mrs. Mickelson’s support motivated Lefty to showcase his hidden skills, ‘You should just tell them that you know how to do the worm.’” The veteran added, “So after she said that, it was over, we were doing it.”

On social media, one can’t always expect positive feedback. The same was true for this post. LIV Golf has faced constant scrutiny regarding their choices in promoting and marketing the league, often being labeled as exhibition golf by many. One user commented along similar lines and stated,“These guys will do anything for attention, but history will show they are the ones who tried to destroy American golf.” Another one criticized LIV Golf by saying, “Yeah, idk how anyone can like LIV after this.”

It seems like the 54-year-old got some time to relax his mind before the commencement of LIV Golf Nashville. How do you think he and his team will perform at the tournament? Will they win?
