The world No.3 is planning to do something for the first time in his career.

Daniil Medvedev has shared his intentions to adjust his pre-season preparations ahead of the 2024 Australian Open.
Medvedev concluded his 2023 season last week, after being beaten in the ATP Finals semi-final by eventual runner-up Jannik Sinner.

And the Russian spoke about how he plans to spend his time off, “I haven’t been on an off-season vacation as some players.”

He continued, “One time I had the Davis Cup. Last year we had a small baby, so I was straight away back to the duties. This year we’re going to go with my wife to the islands. First time in maybe four, five years.

“She doesn’t like it too much there because there is not much to do. But for me, that’s perfect after a hectic season. I love it (smiling).”

Medvedev competed in his first Australian Open back in 2017, and has played a warm-up event prior to the Melbourne major on every occasion.

However, the 27-year-old has revealed that might not be the case next year, “I’m probably going to play only Australian Open. Going to try like this to have more of a vacation time than usual and more of a off-season time and start with a slam straightaway, which is going to be new for me. But let’s see.”

Medvedev has played and won more matches than any other player on the ATP Tour this season, winning 67 of 85 matches, adding five titles to his resume and reaching the US Open final.

This has included two Masters 1000 crowns, with one of those coming on the clay of Rome, a surface Medvedev previously claimed he hated.

And Medvedev has reflected on his performance this season, “It was a great season. Some ups, some downs for sure.

“The big up was at the beginning of the season. I’m proud of myself because before Rotterdam I dropped out of the top 10. It was tough. Before Rotterdam in practice, I was feeling terrible. I couldn’t put the ball in the court. Then after that, everything went to the better. Titles, finals, stuff like this.”

Medvedev concluded, “Generally, I’m happy with what I achieved this season. I’m going to try to learn from it and try to go for more in the next season because Sinner, [Carlos] Alcaraz, and Novak [Djokovic] only play better and better. If you want to try to stay on the top, you have to improve non-stop.”
