Daniil Medvedev added a touch of humor when he summoned the doctor for a medical timeout during his US Open second-round match against Christopher O’Connell, particularly after dropping the third set.

On the court, the doctor asked Medvedev if he had any symptoms. Medvedev hilariously responded by saying: “Yeah. I lost the set. Give me whatever you gave him”.

Daniil Medvedev, the 2021 US Open champion, managed to bounce back after losing the third set and claim a 6-2 6-2 6-7 (6) 6-2 win.

After Medvedev very easily won the first set, it appeared that the Russian was heading toward a very dominant win. But then, Medvedev blew an early third-set break and he also missed out on two consecutive match points in the tie-break.

However, Medvedev was able to bounce back in the fourth set as he broke O’Connell twice en route to completing a four-set win.

“Tough match. I don’t know why, but at one moment in the match he decided to play better.
I played the same from the first point to the last. It became much tougher for me, so I’m happy that I was able to still hang in there. I had opportunities in the third set, and I managed to use them in the fourth,”
Medvedev said after beating O’Connell.

At one point, Medvedev was getting very annoyed by the US Open crowd. Also, it didn’t help when O’Connel forced a fourth set. But Medvedev was able to put all of that aside and seal a third-round spot. “When you get frustrated, you never know.

You could lose your concentration and the match could become much tougher, or like today, I felt like maybe it helped me a little bit. In general, I felt like it was a great match to play, honestly,” Medvedev said.
