Daniil Medvedev shared his opinion on the ATP’s top players in Jannik Sinner, Carlos Alcaraz and Novak Djokovic.
Over the last two seasons it has become clear that the trio are the top players in the game especially due to their exploits at Grand Slam level.
Since Wimbledon 2022, Jannik Sinner, Carlos Alcaraz and Novak Djokovic have won all the majors on offer, in addition to the Serbian’s Olympic title.
Daniil Medvedev knows first hand how challenging it is to play against the trio, who have inflicted some crushing loss on him in recent times.
Does Daniil Medvedev think Jannik Sinner and Carlos Alcaraz are better than Novak Djokovic?
At the age of 37, Novak Djokovic is still a favourite to win each tournament he enters. The Serbian still has what it takes to raise his game on the biggest stage, as he did against Alcaraz in the Paris Olympics final.
But Sinner and Alcaraz have improved exponentially over the past two years and have caught up to Djokovic and they each have wins against him at Grand Slams.
The pair have six majors between them and they are the top two ranked players in the world. Following Medvedev’s defeat to Sinner at the Shanghai Masters, he commented on the improvements the Italian has made and how he and Alcaraz stack up to Djokovic.
“I think at this exact moment him and Carlos are probably the best in the world. But as I said, you know, Novak, we know what he’s capable of, and he proved it at the Olympics again, especially beating Carlos in the final,” he told reporters.
“He serves well, he serves much better than before, and even today, you know, where everything was going a little bit on his side, the few moments where I could maybe have a look at something, he served very big.
“He’s very consistent, yeah, I mean, he’s a great player. I think he has some crazy stats where he almost never loses before quarterfinals, etcetera, so, yeah, he’s a great player.”
What is Daniil Medvedev’s head-to-head rivalry with Jannik Sinner, Carlos Alcaraz and Novak Djokovic?
Medvedev has plenty of experience playing against Sinner, Alcaraz and Djokovic.
The Russian has played Sinner 14 times, and they are locked at seven wins apiece. The 2021 US Open winner won their first six meetings, but Sinner has won seven of their last eight encounters.
Medvedev has played Alcaraz eight times, and they split their first four meetings. But Alcaraz has now won the last four matches, three of which took place in 2024.
The World number five has had an entertaining rivalry with Djokovic, and he has beaten the 24-time Grand Slam winner five times out of 15 matches.
He secured the biggest win of his career against Djokovic in the 2021 US Open final, when he won his only major title so far.
