A poor season for Denis Shapovalov is only getting worse as the Canadian essentially called time on by withdrawing from the 2023 Paris Masters .

Denis Shapovalov has not played since Wimbledon, where he complained about an injury that affected his play but didn’t want to miss the event, so he opted to play anyway. In any case, the Canadian managed only 26 matches this year on the ATP Tour with a 13-13 record, and that’s not good.

He hasn’t been hitting a very high level for a few years now, but this season has been particularly bad, especially with the recent injury woes. He had high hopes of playing back home at the Canadian Open, but it didn’t work out.

Then he had hope of playing at the US Open, but again, it didn’t work out. Ultimately, he had hopes of at least getting back this year, but that again didn’t work out, and his withdrawal from the Paris Masters is basically him calling time on the season.

He won’t play at the Davis Cup Finals for Canada either, which is a shame because he was part of the team last year that lifted the trophy. It’s just been an overall disaster for Shapovalov, as fans hope to see him back again next year.

We don’t know when he’ll come back because there have been very few updates from him, but we do know that off-the-court life has been pretty sweet. He got engaged to long-time girlfriend Mirjam Bjorklund over the summer, which is excellent news.

She’s a tennis player, too, and has been steadily improving over time, which he’s happy about. He’s also become a very vocal player regarding prize money equality after seeing first-hand the disparity through the lens of his girlfriend, so while he’s not playing tennis much, he’s staying busy lately.
