Denis Shapovalov is making a comeback at the Gonet Geneva Open. The second wild card has been given to the 25-year-old left-hander from Canada.
Denis Shapovalov, who was ranked 10th in the world in September 2021 before sustaining a catastrophic knee injury, is back in competition this year.
The Canadian has a history of performing well in important competitions. He was a quarterfinalist at the Australian Open in 2022, a semifinalist at Wimbledon in 2021, and a finalist at the US Open in 2020.
Ahead of his title defence at the French Open, Novak Djokovic has also accepted a wild card to compete in the ATP tournament in Geneva next week in an attempt to turn around his worrying form decline.
The 37-year-old Djokovic will compete in the Swiss clay court event among players like Casper Ruud and Andy Murray. Last weekend, Alejandro Tabilo of Chile defeated him in the third round of the Rome Open.
