Emma Raducanu is into the semi-finals in Washington D.C. after a 6-4 7-5 victory over Maria Sakkari.

The Brit had to come back from a second set deficit and some health scares but Raducanu survived to book a place in the last four.

It was a clinical first set from Raducanu but in the second set had to deal with some health scares before prevailing in straight sets.

After the match Raducanu admitted it was some of the toughest conditions she has ever competed in, “It was one of the toughest matches conditions-wise I have ever played in,” Raducanu explained to the WTA website.

“Those points in the second set, I was getting a bit wobbly. I think the humidity here, it just makes it feel completely like you have just opened an oven and it just stayed open and your head is in there.

“I think you get to a point where you’re so tired that you don’t really know what you’re doing anymore, and I think maybe that helped. I just really had to be smooth and conserve energy. I was also thinking if this goes to three sets, I don’t know how I’m going to do it. So just happy I toughed it out.”

The win means Raducanu has still yet to lose a set against Sakkari in their head-to-head.

Now Raducanu will take on Anna Kalinskaya for a place in the final as Kalinskaya defeated Clara Tauson in the semi-finals.
