Rafael Nadal has taken to hard-court training following his withdrawal from the 2024 US Open. He was spotted back at his academy in Mallorca, Spain, meticulously honing his skills with a commitment to return to peak form.

The Spaniard underwent hip surgery in 2023, leading to withdrawals from the French Open, Wimbledon, and the US Open.The 38-year-old returned to Brisbane International this year, only to experience severe pain in his left thigh, which the MRI as a micro muscle tear. After a lackluster performance at the French Open, he also missed out on the podium finish in singles and doubles at the Paris Olympics. Following the 2024 Games, he took a tough call to withdraw from the US Open, recognizing he wouldn’t be at his peak.

“Hi all, writing today to let you guys know that I have decided not to compete at this year’s US Open a place where I have amazing memories,” Nadal said. “I will miss those electric and special night sessions in NYC at Ashe, but I don’t think I would be able to give my 100% this time.”

However, Nadal announced via Instagram he would compete at the upcoming Laver Cup and was seen diligently training on hard court in the Rafa Nadal Academy.

“My next event will be the Laver Cup in Berlin,” he added

The 22-time Grand Slam champion shared a few pictures from the training session and said:

Rafael Nadal puts a pause on retirement ahead of the Laver Cup

Ahead of the 2024 Laver Cup, slated from September 20 to 22, Rafael Nadal has delayed his retirement plans to focus on the upcoming event.

After missing out on multiple major competitions and below-par performances at the 2024 French Open and Paris Olympics, concerns about his future have been raised. However, the Spaniard is not ready to hang up his racket just yet.Nadal said (via Marca):

“I’m not in a hurry to make a decision about my future. What is certain is that I will be in the Laver Cup, and then we will see.”

The tennis star will join the Europe team, including Carlos Alcaraz, Daniil Medvedev, and Alexander Zverev for the Laver Cup to be held at the Uber Arena in Berlin
