Charlie Woods is in a great spot in the Junior PGA Championship as he heads into the last day of the tournament, while speaking on the level of emotions he’s dealing with while playing
Charlie Woods admitted his rollercoaster round on Thursday had ‘given him a heart attack’ after his strong performance continued at the Junior PGA Championship tournament.
Woods is on the cusp of making the U.S. Junior Ryder Cup team for the first time, with a strong performance at the tournament almost securing his spot, following in his legendary father Tiger Woods’ footsteps.
Charlie, 16, enters Friday’s final day of the Junior major in tied-second place after he shot a 6-under 66 for a second consecutive round on Thursday. His round included nine birdies, showing off his impressive approach game – while admitting he has work to do on his putting.
And he insinuated that the level of intensity has risen for him recently, with the spotlight on more than ever after making big improvements to his game.
He said: “It was so much fun. I had a pretty fun chip on 16, but I just enjoyed being out there, having fun and hopefully I have a good chance of winning tomorrow.
“My round was pretty up and down, and it gave me a heart attack out there. But nine birdies is pretty good. A couple of three-putts, I made a few mistakes today but overall pretty solid round. Pretty good position going into tomorrow.”
