Kate Middleton, the Princess of Wales and Duchess of Cambridge, underwent abdominal surgery on Tuesday, Kensington Palace has announced.

In what is being described as a ‘planned’ procedure, Middleton will be hospitalized for up to two weeks to ensure she is able to make a full recovery.

A statement from the Palace read: “The surgery was successful and it is expected that she will remain in hospital for ten to fourteen days, before returning home to continue her recovery.”

Middleton, 42, is keen to keep things under wraps while she recovers from the surgery as she reportedly wants to “maintain as much normality” for her children, George, 10, Charlotte, eight, and Louis, five.

In response to her request for privacy, Kensington Royal confirmed they will only provide “significant” updates from now on.

It is understood that she will not be able to attend public events or carry out her royal duties until after Easter, with the statement including an apology on her behalf.

“The Princess of Wales wishes to apologise to all those concerned for the fact that she has to postpone her upcoming engagements,” the statement concluded. “She looks forward to reinstating as many as possible, as soon as possible.”

An explanation for Kate’s absence
There was no information provided as to why the surgery was deemed necessary, although Page Six claims that the issue is not related to cancer.

It will put to rest speculation over Kate’s absence from public life as she had not been seen since attending mass at the Church of St. Mary Magdalene in Norfolk, England over the festive period.

And it will be up to Prince William, who married Kate in April 2011 at Westminster Abbey, to help look after their three children while Kate is bed-bound.

While King Charles and Queen Camilla are yet to publicly comment on Kate’s procedure, royal fans flooded the official Kensington Palace Instagram account with well wishes for the stricken Princess.
