The Prince and Princess of Wales attract crowds of fans wherever they go – but they sometimes manage to enjoy a incognito evening out together and head to a restaurant

Prince William and Princess Kate are two of the most famous people in the world, meaning heading out on a low-key date night can be tricky.

To prevent attracting too much attention, the couple usually stay at home and enjoy dinner together away from prying eyes. But every so often, they leave George, Charlotte and Louis at home and head out to dine.

Kate and William made a surprising confession during a visit to Indian Streatery restaurant in Bennetts Hill, Birmingham, ahead of King Charles’ Coronation. The royal couple said they “love curries” and admitted that they “secretly try lots of curry houses around the country” – although it’s not known how they manage to go incognito.

The parents-of-three did manage a romantic night out together in 2021 during a visit to their old stomping ground. William and Kate stayed overnight in St Andrews before a day of royal events – 20 years after they had first met there as students.

And they were spotted leaving Forgan’s restaurant, a contemporary restaurant with a Scottish twist. The couple asked for a private seating area at the back of the eatery, which has welcomed the likes of Rory McIlroy in the past.

“There was a crowd outside once they left but as far as inside goes it was quiet,” said manager Marc, who declined to give his last name. “There was no pomp and ceremony or fanfare, they were very nice and when they left they were very complimentary.”

During their time at university, the Prince and Princess were said to be regulars at their local Pizza Express. They also visited Jahangir, an Indian restaurant on a number of occasions.

It’s no secret the couple are partial to a curry. Back in 2017, the couple were guests on BBC Radio 1, and opened up about how they love to settle down to watch a box set and eat a takeaway curry at their home, which was at Kensington Palace at the time.

When asked if they were “allowed” to order a takeaway to the Palace, the Princess replied, “Absolutely”, before confirming that it would be “curry, definitely”.

Just last year, William admitted he can’t take much heat when it comes to cuisine, however. Both William and his wife appeared on Going Home with Vick and Jordan on Radio 1, where they were asked what they were planning to have for dinner that night. “Are you cooking?!” Kate asked William.

He responded that they would likely be eating curry that night, which is a dish that Kate normally makes. “So you’re looking to me?” she jokingly clarified.

The Prince of Wales then explained that the final decision on what they would eat would be based on when exactly they would get home. “Yeah, it probably will be a curry or teriyaki salmon, something like that,” Kate said.

The hosts were then curious how the royal couple preferred to eat their curries: spicy or mild? In response, William and Kate revealed the differences in their food preferences. “I can’t do too much spice, I start sweating. It’s not attractive,” William said, before Kate revealed: “Whereas I like the spice so I have to sort of cook the curry and then add the spice, extra spice at the end.”
