Prince William and Princess Kate married in 2011 and now share three children together – but they have a very relatable way of keeping the romance alive in their relationship
The Prince and Princess of Wales have been married for more than a decade, but they seem more in love than ever. Despite their huge profile, the couple are much like any other husband and wife and they work hard to keep their romance alive – with one simple move.
William and Kate have been known to set aside time to head out on date nights together, and they made a surprising confession during a visit to Indian Streatery restaurant in Bennetts Hill, Birmingham, ahead of King Charles’ Coronation.
The royal couple said they “love curries” and admitted that they “secretly try lots of curry houses around the country” – although it’s not known how they manage to go incognito.
They did make headlines with one of their date nights, however. In 2021 they paid a visit to their old stomping ground and stayed overnight in St Andrews before a day of royal events – 20 years after they had first met there as students.
And before heading off to bed, they were spotted leaving Forgan’s restaurant, a contemporary restaurant with a Scottish twist. The couple reportedly asked for a private seating area at the back of the eatery, which has welcomed the likes of Rory McIlroy in the past.
“There was a crowd outside once they left but as far as inside goes it was quiet,” said manager Marc, who declined to give his last name. “There was no pomp and ceremony or fanfare, they were very nice and when they left they were very complimentary.”
The manager, who was off duty when the couple arrived was called by staff at home: “Word certainly reached me that we had guests come in.” He declined to say what they had eaten, but on the menu at Forgan’s was honey and whisky glazed short rib of beef priced at £17, herb crusted salmon for £16 and sumac cauliflower steak costing £11.
During their time at university, the Prince and Princess were said to be regulars at their local Pizza Express. They also visited Jahangir, an Indian restaurant on a number of occasions.
William and Kate did enjoy a more unusual date night in October 2023, when they paid a secret visit to the salerooms of auctioneers Dreweatts, located close to their Windsor home, Adelaide Cottage.
According to the Daily Mail, the couple appeared “very, very interested” in some of the items they saw while at the salerooms. They were looking at the extraordinary collection amassed by the late decorator and antique dealer Robert Kime, who was hired by King Charles in 2000 to overhaul Highgrove and Clarence House.
A three-day auction of his collection, which included carpets and vases worth up to £1.5million, started on Wednesday 4 October. A source told the Daily Mail, “Everyone was all of a twitter to see them. It was the beginning of the very big champagne reception that auctioneers always have before a serious date.”
Dreweatt and Kensington Palace declined to comment on William and Kate’s visit but some suspected that a discreet telephone bid – or two – could have been made on their behalf. If the couple did put in an offer for any of the pieces, it is likely they would have been for their friends and family, rather than something for themselves.
