Kate Middleton bends century-old rules to send key message on future role
Princess of Wales pushes for new change as she prepares for role as future Queen.
Kate Middleton had a strong start to 2025 as she dived back into her royal duties as the future Queen.
The Princess of Wales, who was bestowed new responsibilities and patronage by King Charles, made some changes of her own, even if it meant bending age-old traditions in favour of the modern monarchy.
Kate has been known for her sartorial picks and her style choices quickly pick up as the most running trends. The phenomenon, which has been dubbed as ‘Kate Effect’, recently benefited Austrian-based designer Petar Petrov.
The Princess wore brown blazer from the brand for her February 4th visit to National Portrait Gallery.

The designer noted that Kate’s dressing has been breaking traditions as she opts for “much more modern” and “relaxed” looks, channelling her late mother-in-law Princess Diana.
“Her clothing looks much less uptight; she looks modern and fresh. I think after fighting cancer, she became even more relevant now than she was, she is such an inspiration to other women and that’s important to us,” Petrov told People Magazine.
“It’s not about what rules that were created 100 years ago, she is leaning into what her values are now, what the reality of being a working royal is now and that’s very interesting to me.”
She continued, “I really think it’s great that this is the person who will be the future Queen of England, she is modern, she is reflective and she sees the world around her, rather than living in a royal bubble which makes her even more special.”
