After seemingly vanishing off the face of the Earth following her undisclosed abdominal surgery at The London Clinic, Kate Middleton, the Princess of Wales, has finally made a statement and has apologised for her absence.
She hasn’t been seen in public since Christmas Day, but since mid-January it has been of particular interest due to the surgery, leaving fans and media speculating heavily about the health of the future Queen of England.
She had undergone planned surgery for an abdominal issue although nobody knows what it is actually for except that it isn’t to do with cancer. Nonetheless, it’s knocked the wind out of her sails and she won’t be back to royal duties until after Easter.
This is something that she has already stressed to the public, but they seem to have forgotten and now she has reiterated that all is well as far as she is concerned as she continues her recovery.
“The Princess of Wales appreciates the interest this statement will generate,” a press release from Kensington Palace read. “She hopes that the public will understand her desire to maintain as much normality for her children as possible; and her wish that her personal medical information remains private.
“Kensington Palace will, therefore, only provide updates on Her Royal Highness’ progress when there is significant new information to share.
“The Princess of Wales wishes to apologize to all those concerned for the fact that she has to postpone her upcoming engagements. She looks forward to reinstating as many as possible, as soon as possible.”
Why is there so much worry?
It would probably have been received quite normally if the King of England, Charles III, hadn’t been so expressive about his own health issues at the exact same time.
The reigning monarch had prostate surgery and was then diagnosed with cancer, but he has communicated this to the public, including how well he is actually doing. That’s made people worry for Middleton’s health, fearing something grave.
“The King has gone a very different way to the Princess of Wales, he has been giving regular updates,” The Mirror’s editor, Russell Myers, said on Pod Save The King. “We’ve seen him being driven in the State Bently with the big windows waving to the crowds, then taking part in a video.
“He obviously feels well enough in himself to do those sorts of things. He is carrying on his mother’s mantra – being seen to be believed.
“But that doesn’t take away from the fact that we should respect Kate wanting to guard her privacy – it’s a private medical matter and she obviously had a lot to deal with, major surgery and taking that period of time to rest and recuperate.”
