Kate Middleton is one supportive spouse to Prince William.
The Prince and Princess of Wales, both 41, stepped out in Scotland on Thursday to meet organizations supporting the mental health of young people in rural communities. While it was a joint duty for the couple, Kate introduced herself as William’s wife when a child asked who she was during a stop at a primary school.

As seen in a video shared on X by fan account RoyallyBelle_, the comment came as Kate was happily chatting with kids at Burghead Primary School. “I really like your school,” the royal mom told a group of youngsters with Scottish flags in hand.

Giving a child a high-five, she gave a surprising reply: “Who am I? I’m married to William,” she explained and pointed to her left, though the Prince of Wales wasn’t seen on screen. “I know! It was very nice to meet all of you,” she said.

Princess Kate’s answer highlighted her supportive role to Prince William, who is the current heir to the throne and set to be king one day.

“She’s never trying to outshine him in any way,” royal biographer Penny Junor previously told PEOPLE about the couple’s dynamic. “I think that Kate is a bit like Prince Philip supporting the Queen. She doesn’t outshine William but still has a lot to say herself.”

A source added that Kate “is the sort of woman who will take on whatever she needs to. If she needs to step up to the plate, she does it — and she always has. She and William are a formidable team.”

Princess Kate also lets Prince William take the lead during joint outings when appropriate. In a video that recently resurfaced on TikTok, the pair visited the Foundling Museum, and Kate cleverly followed royal etiquette. She is seen approaching their greeters first but starts some chit-chat while she waits for William to make his way over. William is then the first to do handshakes with the greeters, and Kate follows.

Prince William often returns the favor and plays the role of the supportive spouse, letting Princess Kate take center stage at events where she is the patron of the organization or highlighting a cause close to her heart.

Kate and William tied the knot in 2011 and went on to welcome three children — Prince George, 10, Princess Charlotte, 8, and Prince Louis, 5. The royal parents are pros at connecting with kids and are known to squat down to their eye level to create a sense of empowerment when speaking with a child.

The Prince and Princess of Wales — who are known as the Duke and Duchess of Rothesay while in Scotland — stopped at Burghead Primary School to see the local charity Outfit Moray in action.

The organization works to develop young people’s potential through affordable outdoor learning and adventure, encouraging life skills and improving overall health through sports like mountain biking, rock climbing, and archery — and Princess Kate knew just what to do when one young boy took a tumble!

Video shared to X by Greatest Hits Radio News showed Kate kneeling to make eye contact with the boy and rubbing his back as she assured him he was “so brave.” Playfully changing the subject to lift his spirits, she asked, “Where’s your bike? Are you going to give it another go?” and smiled.

According to Martin Collins, the acting head of the primary school, the princess went out of her way to offer the boy some support.

“One of the boys fell over as well, and she was really — sort of came to him and nudged him back, so that was really nice to see,” Collins told MFR News and Sport, mentioning that Kate was “really just involved with the boys and girls.”

In addition to learning more about the important work of Outdoor Moray, which is dedicated to helping vulnerable or disadvantaged youth between ages 8 and 18 and has worked with over 16,000 young people since its founding in 2003, Kate and William popped on helmets to navigate a bike course for themselves! The active couple navigated a cycling course with obstacles and seemed to be in good spirits during the exercise.

The royal couple might enjoy riding bikes at home, as evidenced by the photo released for their 12th wedding anniversary! The shot showed William and Kate sitting on bikes with their arms linked around each other in an image shared to their joint Instagram page.

“12 years ❤️,” the sweet snap was captioned of the Prince and Princess of Wales.

The picture was taken by photographer Matt Porteous in the Norfolk countryside during the same shoot that yielded the couple’s 2022 Christmas card and U.K.’s Mother’s Day photo.

Norfolk is a favorite escape for William, Kate and their three kids, and the family is known to spend school breaks, weekends and holidays at Anmer Hall, their country home in the county that’s about 110 miles north of London. Anmer Hall is part of the royal family’s Sandringham estate, and it’s where Kate is said to feel most at home.
