Prince William assumed the role when King Charles officially transferred the position, previously held by the monarch as the Prince of Wales for 31 years.

Kensington Palace has made a big announcement amid reports Prince William is ‘seizing’ more power as his father King Charles weakens.

The In Touch Weekly, citing royal insiders, reported the Prince of Wales assumes more and more official responsibility that he “has never been more influential” than he is now.

The report further says with King Charles battling cancer and frankly getting up there in age, the monarch “is now bestowing more responsibility on [William] and by all accounts is acknowledging that his time to rule will be sooner, rather than later.”

Amid these reports, royal expert Cameron Walker took to X, formerly Twitter handle and shared palace announcement.

He tweeted, “NEW: The Prince of Wales will arrive in style for his first solo engagement as Colonel-in-Chief of the Army Air Corps next Thursday, arriving at Wattisham Flying Centre via a Wildcat Helicopter.

“He will meet personnel and watch them take part in fitness training.”

The Majesty Magazine also shared on X, “NEW: The Prince of Wales, Colonel-in-Chief, @ArmyAirCorps (AAC), will visit the regiments at Wattisham, Suffolk, for the first time next Thursday, 16th January.”

In August 2023, the monarch announced a range of military appointments for working Members of the Royal Family, including that the Prince of Wales would become Colonel-in-Chief of the Army Air Corps.

Prince William assumed the role in May 2024, when King Charles officially transferred the position during a ceremony at the Army Aviation Centre in Middle Wallop.

The role was previously held by the King, as the Prince of Wales, for 31 years.
