Former world number one Maria Sharapova has been banned for two years.
This was announced by the International Tennis Federation (ITF).
“The ban entered into force in January 2016, while today it has also taken its definitive form”, writes in the announcement of the ITF, Telegrafi reports.
The five-time Grand Slam winner has tested positive for meldonium, a substance banned by the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA).
The ban can be appealed within a week, although the 29-year-old Russian tennis player is unlikely to win the case. /Telegraph/
