Meghan Markle revealed she went on a secret night out with Princess Eugenie, Jack Brooksbank and Prince Harry before their relationship was made public.
In 2016, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex had been dating for four months and were very much in love but they wanted to keep prying eyes at bay. Having a secret relationship wasn’t easy and most of the couple’s early dates took place in private restaurants or at each other’s homes where they knew they were safe from the public. However, as the couple grew from strength to strength they started venturing out into the outside world.
Harry and Meghan shared previously unseen photographs as they partied with Princess Eugenie and Jack Brooksbank on Halloween in their new Netflix documentary. And in the first episode of their new £88million Harry & Meghan series the couple shared several photographs from the big night out. In one snap, Meghan and Harry can be seen crowding in for a photograph with Eugenie and Jack, as well as another friend, Marcus.
On that fateful night, in Meghan’s Canadian hometown, Toronto, the pair wanted to celebrate Halloween, so they came up with a plan. Meghan revealed that she and Harry, along with Princess Eugenie and her now-husband Jack Brooksbank went on a night out at Soho House in Toronto – but to make sure nobody recognised them, they went in disguise.
Meghan cast her mind back to the night while having a chat with Ellen DeGeneres in a talk show interview. She said: “He came to see me in Toronto and our friends and his cousin Eugenie and now her husband Jack, they came as well. And the four of us snuck out in Halloween costumes to just have one fun night on the town before it was out in the world that we were a couple. Ellen said: “So you went with Harry to a Halloween party and they had no idea it was the two of you?” Meghan confirmed this, saying: “It was a post-apocalypse theme, so we had all this very bizarre costuming on, and we were able to just have one fun final night out.”
This was the couple’s final night out before their relationship was revealed. In the book about the couple Finding Freedom, authors Omid Scobie and Carolyn Durand, said the pair were having the “perfect night out” – “until they received a call from one of Harry’s aides at Kensington Palace. It wasn’t good news.” The couple were told that the press had discovered they were dating. The next day, their relationship would be announced all over the world.
