Meghan Markle wants the world to know that her last name is now Sussex. According to the Duchess, the name is important to her because it is the last name of her husband and children.
Meghan Markle’s Name Change Won’t Change Relationship With the Royal Family
The rift between the Sussexes and the Royal Family may not be making headlines anymore, but that doesn’t mean it’s any closer to mending.
According to reports, some progress was made during King Charles and Princess Kate’s double cancer diagnosis early last year, but talks quickly died down. And now, both sides are said to have tightened up on communications again.Change Might Upset King Charles
While Harry and Meghan have opted to move on from publicly criticizing the royal family, the decision to change her last name might still come as a surprise to the royals.
Speaking to The Sun on this, royal author Phil Dampier said: “I doubt King Charles would like Meghan making references to the importance of Sussex as her name but I’ve always felt he’s reluctant to start any process of stripping her and Harry of their titles. It would be difficult to do and he doesn’t want to make the rift any worse, hoping one day there might be a reconciliation with his son.”
“The show won’t do anything to help mend the rift between them as it’s mainly just drivel about re-arranging fruit and lighting candles,” the royal expert explained. “At least Meghan is trying to make money out of something else besides criticising the royal family. But any family reconciliation will take a lot longer and a real changing of attitudes on all sides.”
Members of the Royal Family Could Watch Meghan Markle’s Netflix Show Out of Curiosity
As for whether the Royal Family would be interested enough to take a peek on Meghan’s new show, Phil Dampier believes so. If not for anything else, for the sake of the children.
“I’m sure if you asked their spokesmen both the King and William and Kate would say they won’t be watching Meghan’s show but it’s hard to believe they wouldn’t take a sneak look out of curiosity,” Dampier opined. “Certainly it will be very poignant and sad for the King to see a glimpse of his grandchildren who he never sees. Archie and Lilibet are growing up in the US with American accents and it’s very sad for Charles that he doesn’t really know them or see them.”
“He dotes on William and Kate’s kids and I’m sure he would be a loving grandfather to Harry and Meghan’s children if given the chance, despite everything that has happened.”
