Michael Steele, who served as the Republican National Committee Chair from 2009 until 2011, backed up Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-GA)’s assertion that the Republican party is full of “weak” men.

“She ain’t wrong,” Steele posted on X. “When I began in GOP politics the first thing noticed was Republican women were far more adept at “politics” than the men. From the Women’s Federation to actual candidacies (of which there were very few) the men in leadership ALWAYS underestimated their value and political potency.”

Since being ousted from his role as RNC chair in 2011, Steele has pushed back against the rise of President Donald Trump, referring to him as a “Republican in Name Only.” During the 2020 election, he endorsed President Joe Biden and he voted for Vice President Kamala Harris in 2024.

While Steele is critical of Trump; Greene applauds Trump’s leadership style as she dismisses Republican leaders in her interview with the Washington Post.

“Whereas President Trump has a very strong, dominant style — he’s not weak at all — a lot of the men here in the House are weak,” Greene told the Post.

“There’s a lot of weak Republican men and they’re more afraid of strong Republican women. So they always try to marginalize the strong Republican women that actually want to do something and actually want to achieve.”

“They’re always intimidated by stronger Republican women because we mean it and we will do it and we will make them look bad,” Green continued.

In recent weeks, Greene has made headlines for bucking Republican leadership in supporting Democrats on their efforts to release the Epstein files and to protect Affordable Care Act tax subsidies.

Greene said she was “absolutely disgusted”that GOP leaders are failing to find a solution in preventing the ACA tax credits from expiring, which could cause health insurance premiums to double. The ACA tax credits are one of the main issues that Democrats are fighting for in negotiations to end the government shutdown.

“I’m going to go against everyone on this issue because when the tax credits expire this year my own adult children’s insurance premiums for 2026 are going to DOUBLE, along with all the wonderful families and hard-working people in my district,” Greene wrote in the post.

“Not a single Republican in leadership talked to us about this or has given us a plan to help Americans deal with their health insurance premiums DOUBLING!!!”
