Every individual dreams of making his or her parents proud, and Serena Williams‘ husband, Alexis Ohanian, is no exception. The American entrepreneur, who lost his mother in 2008, has long wanted to make her proud of his idea of the renowned online platform Reddit. Now that the company has recently achieved a huge milestone, Ohanian shared a heartfelt post for his late mother, Anke.

Reddit, which was co-founded by Alexis and his friends, has now gone public with its IPO (Initial Public Offering) launch this week. As it was a ‘milestone’ day for the internet mogul, Ohanian recently took to social media to open up about how he was ‘missing’ his late mother on such an occasion.

In his latest Instagram post, the American entrepreneur shared a video clip of an old interview in which he described his journey of co-founding an online network of communities where users can dive into various topics. He also added the caption, “We did it, Mom. $RDDT IPO.” Ohanian also shared the post on his Instagram story and said, “Miss you extra on these milestone days, mom. 16 years. You’re still with me.”

The internet mogul has carried the memories of Anke with him throughout his journey of diligently keeping up with his different business endeavors. Even for his venture capital firm, 776 Foundation, Ohanian recently opened up about how his mother served as an inspiration, as he wanted to make her proud.

In another recent social media post, the internet entrepreneur talked about how Anke’s tragic passing inspired him to launch his 776 Foundation. He tweeted, “My mom died 16 years ago today. This used to be the hardest day of the year for me (Ides of March, go figure) and then 3 years ago I started my family foundation — @776foundation and found a new meaning to this day — one that I know she’d have been proud of.”

As his venture capital firm provides funding to young entrepreneurs and organizations, Ohanian also discussed his great vision to uplift people ardently working for climate change. He added, “I’ve given away a few million dollars so far ($20M committed!) to young people taking BIG swings to BUILD and FIGHT climate change. And we’re going to open up our global application here again soon for the third batch of 20 fellows.” What do you think of the American internet entrepreneur’s heartfelt post on the milestone occasion?
