Phil Mickelson

Phil Mickelson‘s fans had high expectations this year. They no doubt wanted to see his team HyFlyers GC flourish. And at the start of the year when the LIV Golf star made the young addition of Andy Ogletree to the Black-donning team, anticipation only grew! Lefty even said, “Andy is one of the most impressive young players in the game who has earned his spot on LIV.”

However looking at how Mickelson’s team ended the season, no doubt the youngster’s prowess comes into question. This year Ogletree’s performance as a Hyflyers GC team member has not been very impressive. But there’s a reason for it too–an injury. “The wrist, I’ve been battling it all year,” said Ogletree after having a disappointing debut at the Open Championship mid-year after a measly 6-over 77 at Royal Troon. However, now things could be getting better.

The golfer recently posted a photo on Instagram and wrote that he had undergone a procedure for his injury. “Today I underwent a wrist procedure to alleviate the pain I’ve been experiencing for a long time. Thank you to Dr. Gary Lourie and his staff for their incredible work. Can’t wait to get back on the golf course to prep for next season. Thanks to everyone for the well wishes.”

Of course, the timing couldn’t have been better. Given that LIV’s season has ended, and the golfers won’t need to officially be back for a few more months, neither HyFlyers nor Ogletree himself will have to suffer severe consequences through his recovery time. Undoubtedly a good calculated move by Andy Ogletree! But was Ogletree the sole reason for the HyFlyers’ downfall?

How did HyFlyers GC perform this year?
The positioning of HyFlyers GC was indeed questionable this year, despite the guidance of their six-time major winner captain. This entire year has been a disappointing one for the team, as HyFlyers struggled at every turn to secure a much-needed victory. Alas, despite their efforts the team couldn’t manage a single win this entire season, finishing outside the points in eight of 13 regular-season tournaments.

However, amidst their struggles, the HyFlyers managed to pull off a major upset in the Team Championship quarterfinals, defeating the higher-seeded Torque GC (5th seed) 2-1. Sadly, this brief moment of triumph was quickly overshadowed by their semifinal loss to Legion XIII, who overpowered them with another 2-1 defeat.

Eventually, the team managed to secure the T-7th finish in the Tier 2 finals. Though it can be said to be a respectable position, it’s still far from remarkable. As the HyFlyers look toward next season, it’s clear they will need to put in all their efforts to claim the victory.
